Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Bar Supervisor/Manager to oversee daily operations within The Dartmouth Arms. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for excellent service, and a solid background in beverage management. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a team, ensure exceptional customer experiences, and uphold the highest standards of hygiene and quality. Previous experience in restaurant, hotel, or bar settings is required, alongside a comprehensive understanding of culinary practices and team management.
There is the possibility of local accommodation, if required for the right candidate who may be travelling or in the process of relocation.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all bar operations to ensure smooth and efficient service
- Manage and motivate the bar team, providing guidance and training to uphold service standards
- Ensure a friendly and warm welcome to customers
- Oversee the setting up, preparation and closing down processes
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
- Assist with the preparation of beverages, including specialised cocktails and barista-style drinks
- Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage inventory to minimise waste
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve any issues promptly to guarantee customer satisfaction
- Organise staff schedules, assign duties, and oversee team performance during shifts
- Maintain a welcoming atmosphere that promotes hospitality and excellent service delivery
- Collaborate with bar staff to ensure seamless teamwork
- Management of the cellar (experience handling kegs and casks is desirable)
- Monitor the clientele, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all, and adhering to the legal requirements of the licence
Requirements
- Proven supervising experience within a bar or hospitality setting
- Strong team management skills with the ability to lead by example
- Extensive knowledge of bar and cellar management, and food safety standards
- Familiarity with serving in busy environments such as hotels or restaurants
- Previous experience as a barista or in beverage preparation is vital
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively under pressure
- Leadership qualities combined with a friendly, professional demeanour
- A recognised qualification in hospitality management or related fields is preferred but not essential
