Purpose of the Role
The Workshop Engineer is responsible for the assembly, Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), servicing, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of LiuGong construction equipment and associated products.
Working under the direction of the Workshop Supervisor, the role ensures machines are prepared safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards prior to customer delivery or return to service.
The Workshop Engineer will demonstrate strong technical competence across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems whilst maintaining excellent housekeeping, safety and customer focus.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Assembly & PDI
- Assemble new machines in accordance with LiuGong factory specifications.
- Carry out full Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI).
- Install optional equipment and customer specifications.
- Complete machine commissioning.
- Carry out functional testing before release.
- Ensure all machines meet quality standards before delivery.
- Complete all inspection documentation accurately.
Repairs & Maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
- Carry out planned servicing.
- Complete warranty repairs.
- Undertake machine rebuilds and refurbishment work.
- Replace components using approved repair procedures.
- Complete repairs right first time.
- Ensure machines are returned in safe operating condition.
Diagnostics
- Use LiuGong diagnostic software and service systems.
- Diagnose CANBUS and electronic control systems.
- Carry out software updates where required.
- Record diagnostic findings accurately.
- Escalate unusual technical issues through the correct channels.
Quality
- Complete work to manufacturer standards.
- Carry out final quality inspections on completed work.
- Minimise repeat repairs.
- Ensure machines are clean and professionally presented before release.
- Report recurring product concerns.
Workshop Standards
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace.
- Care for workshop tools and equipment.
- Report damaged tooling immediately.
- Assist with stock control of workshop consumables.
- Follow workshop processes and standard operating procedures.
Health & Safety
- Follow all company Health & Safety procedures.
- Wear PPE correctly.
- Report hazards, accidents and near misses.
- Ensure lifting equipment is used correctly.
- Handle oils, fuels, batteries and hazardous materials safely.
- Support environmental compliance.
Customer Support
Where required the Workshop Engineer will:
- Support field engineers with technical advice.
- Assist with customer demonstrations.
- Explain completed repairs where appropriate.
- Maintain a professional attitude when dealing with customers.
Battery Electric Equipment (BEV)
As LiuGong expands its electric equipment range, the Workshop Engineer will:
- Carry out servicing and repairs on Battery Electric Machines.
- Complete High Voltage Awareness and Technical Training.
- Follow High Voltage Safe Systems of Work.
- Support commissioning of charging equipment where required.
- Maintain competency through ongoing manufacturer training.
Administration
- Complete job cards accurately.
- Record labour hours.
- Update service management systems.
- Complete warranty documentation.
- Record parts used.
- Complete inspection reports.
- Maintain service history records.

Performance will be measured against:
- First Time Fix Rate
- Workshop productivity
- Labour efficiency
- Quality of repairs
- PDI completion quality
- Warranty claim accuracy

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Experience working on construction equipment, heavy plant, agricultural or commercial vehicles.
- Strong mechanical knowledge.
- Good hydraulic fault-finding ability.
- Good electrical diagnostic skills.
- Ability to interpret service manuals and technical drawings.
- Good communication skills.
- Good IT skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 Plant Maintenance or equivalent.
- Experience with LiuGong equipment.
- Experience using diagnostic software.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- F-Gas qualification (if air conditioning work required).
- High Voltage or EV qualification.
- LOLER awareness.
- IPAF or MEWP experience.
- Forklift licence.

Authority
The Workshop Engineer is authorised to:
- Carry out repairs in accordance with manufacturer procedures.
- Complete PDIs and machine commissioning.
- Recommend additional repair work.
- Raise parts requirements.
- Stop work where Health & Safety is compromised.
- Escalate technical concerns to the Workshop Supervisor.
Pay: £35,000.00 per year
