To support SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) students at Ryedale Special Families’ Alternative Education service. We are looking for a skilled and dedicated individual who is passionate about supporting young people with a person centred approach.
This is a part time position and a chance to be part of an exciting new service for students with additional needs in Ryedale. Please note, there may be opportunities to combine with Support Worker hours to make a full time role. Ryedale Special Families is a well regarded local charity with many years experience of providing services to disabled children and young people.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support students with a range of SEND needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs
- Work alongside teachers and SENCO to deliver individual support
- Help to create an inclusive and positive learning environment
- Help provide a diverse and individual timetable of activities which help meet the needs of the young person
- Meet people’s needs following their support plan, a person centred approach will be adopted
- Ensure the safety of children, young people and young adults by adopting correct health and safety procedures
- Provide emotional support to the family as part of a caring team
- Carry out all responsibilities within an equal opportunities framework
- Undertake aspects of personal care and hygiene where required
- Administer medication and keep records relating to this, where required
- Assist with therapeutic programmes under the direction of RSF and medical practitioners
- Provide a safe environment for those who need constant supervision and help
- Some of the work may involve working with young people and young adults who display challenging behaviour. This may include verbal and physical aggression, e.g. shouting, scratching, hitting. The people we work with who have challenging behaviour always have an appropriate support plan with clear guidance to deal with such behaviour. You will be trained and fully supported in working in these circumstances
- Provide flexible cover for colleagues in the event of a holiday or sickness working as part of a caring team
- Attend team meetings as required
- Participate in an induction programme and attend ongoing in-service training determined by individual need.
- Complete digital records as required
Pay: £13.91-£14.87 per hour
Expected hours: 19.5 per week
