Summary
- This is a 4-month contract opportunity with a local authority, offering a daily rate of £369.98 via Umbrella. The Senior SEND Assessment & Review Officer plays a pivotal role in providing expert support and leadership within the SEND Assessment & Review Team. The position ensures that Education, Health, and Care (EHC) statutory processes are executed efficiently, consistently, and within legal timeframes. The role involves overseeing complex casework, guiding and challenging Assessment and Reviewing Officers, conducting quality assurance activities, and managing a select number of complex or high-risk cases that require senior oversight.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and track EHC needs assessments, annual reviews, reassessments, and phase transfer processes to ensure adherence to statutory deadlines.
- Identify and address delays, risks, and barriers that affect case progression, taking proactive measures to resolve issues.
- Ensure all SEND processes comply with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Handle a small caseload of complex, sensitive, or high-profile cases needing senior oversight.
- Offer expert advice, guidance, coaching, and support to Assessment and Reviewing Officers on complex casework and SEND legislation.
- Foster accountability within the team by monitoring case progression and performance.
- Assist colleagues in resolving challenging situations and achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Serve as a source of specialist knowledge and best practice within the service.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in SEND services and managing statutory SEND processes.
- In-depth experience with Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Needs Assessments and EHC Plans.
- Proven experience in managing complex and sensitive SEND casework.
- Experience in providing support, advice, guidance, and coaching to colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with schools, families, health services, and other professionals.
Qualifications
- Educated to Level 4 or higher in Education, SEND, Social Care, Public Services, or a related field; or
- Significant equivalent experience within a SEND statutory service.

- Working hours: 37 hours per week
- Location: The Crescent, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 4DY, United Kingdom
- Basic DBS required.
- Work pattern: Remote work is acceptable, though the office base is available.
