Move On manage the Glasgow and the West of Scotland regional centre of FareShare, a charity supporting people to achieve personal goals and make positive, lasting change in their lives. Move On use FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland as a unique training site, offering the opportunity to gain qualifications; practical training and work experience; as well as securing their forklift and driving licenses. Many of the people Move On work with face barriers to employment, including low confidence; little or no work experience; poor physical or mental health; involvement in the criminal justice system and experience with addiction. Move On’s services are delivered in a manner which are trauma informed/skilled, person-centred and asset based. We are committed to supporting people where they need it, when they need it and for as long as they need it.
The Move On Forklift Instructor (or Trainer) is a certified professional responsible for teaching, testing, and certifying forklift operators on safe, efficient handling techniques in compliance with industry regulation.
They are required to develop training materials, deliver classroom/practical lessons, and assess operator skills to ensure workplace safety and competence.
Required to train all trainees, both internal and external to an agreed accredited standard.
Ensure that FareShare’s accredited training centre status is successfully maintained and developed according to industry recognised standards.
Duties
- Develop and deliver engaging forklift training programs tailored to various skill levels, emphasizing safety procedures and operational best practices
- Assess trainee performance through practical demonstrations and written evaluations, providing constructive feedback for improvement
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions, certifications awarded, and trainee progress in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards
- Stay current with industry regulations related to forklift operation, safety standards, and certification requirements
- Coordinate scheduling of training sessions with trainees and management to ensure timely completion of certification programs
- Communicate effectively with trainees, providing clear instructions, encouragement, and support throughout the learning process
- Incorporate IT tools and instructional technology into training modules to enhance learning experiences
Qualifications
- Must be an accredited instructor – RTITB
- Must have a knowledge of GDPR regulations
- Knowledge and understanding of L117 ACOP, PUWER (1998), LOLER (1998), Health & Safety at Work Act (1974)
- Qualified to conduct and teach Site-Specific Risk Assessments - Desirable
- IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent) - Desirable
- First Aid at Work - Desirable
- Experience as a forklift operator - minimum of 12 months.
- Excellent verbal and written skills to deliver complex technical information to trainees of varying experience levels.
- Ability to assess skill gaps and evaluate trainee progress.
- A full UK driving licence is required
- Meticulous attention to detail is required to ensure all certifications meet HSE and accrediting body standards.
- Experience of working on own initiative and able to manage own workload and prioritise tasks to meet objectives
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel for tracking) and familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Experience of working in a team with evidence of demonstrating a flexible approach to team working
- High attention to detail is critical for handling sensitive certification data and managing complex training calendars.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in training a volunteer team and maintaining a manageable workload.
- Experience of motivating and developing people through positive approaches, and experience of working with people who require support
- Able to take initiative and use common sense
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
