R B Watts Ltd are looking for a new Sales Assistant and Trainee Roofing Estimator to join our team
The right candidate will have good numeracy skills and be keen to learn how to accurately take off from technical roofing drawings to price roof works- from one off domestic refurbishment works to full site tenders for main contractors; as well as support the office team with other administrative tasks and serve customers in the yard (as required).
Main responsibilities:
The estimator element of the role will include:
- printing and preparing tender documents received from main contractors
- raising tender specific estimate sheets on Excel
- completing manual take-offs from scale technical drawings to accurately quantify roof areas, dimensions, roof pitches and subsequently the required materials and labour costings for roof works
- inputting the information taken from the manual take offs into Excel and then transferring the required figures onto a prepared site/job specific schedule of works
- Raising an accurate quotation for the client inclusive of the attached information
Full training for the role will be provided to the successful candidate (as required)
As a member of a smaller team, it is essential for all members of staff to be able to pick up multiple tasks in the workplace, so alongside the estimator role, any successful candidate would need to be happy to serve customers in the yard (including operate a forklift as and when required), prepare deliveries, load and unload vehicles and work alongside other members of the team.
Key Skills and Requirements:
- Good numerical aptitude, high attention to detail, and a methodical approach to problem-solving
- Positive attitude, adaptability and good customer service skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
- Good timekeeping, reliability and a strong work ethic
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with others
- A valid forklift license preferred but not essential (in house training will be provided if required)
- A full UK driving license is preferred but not essential
Working Shifts/Patterns- 39 hours per week (average)
Monday: 0800-1700
Tuesday: 0800-1700
Wednesday: 0800-1700
Thursday: 0800-1700
Friday: 0800-1600
1No hour unpaid break a day, taken as two 15-minute breaks (one morning and one afternoon), and a 30-minute lunch break OR one 15-minute break in the morning and a 45-minute lunch break (dependent on personal preference/business needs on the day)
On occasions (such as when other colleagues are on annual leave) the job may require the successful candidate to open and/or close the office; so some flexibility to these working hours may be required.
30No days holiday a year inclusive of bank holidays and Christmas shutdown period (from 24th December to 1st January minimum but may be longer depending on how the days fall in the year)

Starting rate of pay £14/per hour, paid weekly in lieu (negotiable)
