Position Overview:
We are urgently seeking reliable Casual / Ad-Hoc Site Labourers aged 18+ to assist our team at a major residential development in Wigan. The role involves loading and unloading deliveries, moving and distributing building materials around the site, maintaining site cleanliness and housekeeping standards, and providing general assistance to trades and the Site Manager. The work is physically demanding and involves regular manual handling.
Work will be offered on an ad-hoc basis according to site requirements. There is no guaranteed minimum number of days or hours. When work is available, the required dates will be confirmed in advance. Normal site working hours are 8.00am to 5.00pm, with a one-hour unpaid break. Immediate availability is preferred.
Long-term opportunity: For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to progress into a full-time, longer-term role with DBR Builders (NW) Ltd, with increased pay reflecting performance, reliability, responsibilities and experience.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Load and unload deliveries and safely distribute building materials, including boards, timber, tiles and other materials, to the required areas and floors of the development.
· Carry out manual handling and general labouring tasks safely, using suitable handling methods and equipment where provided.
· Maintain good housekeeping throughout the working day, including clearing debris, sweeping work areas, keeping access routes clear and placing waste in the designated bins or skips.
· Provide general assistance to trades and the Site Manager with reasonable site tasks as directed.
· Comply with the site induction, risk assessments, manual-handling requirements, PPE requirements and all other site health and safety rules at all times.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
· Applicants must be aged 18 or over and physically able to safely carry out the essential manual-handling duties of the role. Reasonable adjustments will be considered where appropriate.
· The role may suit students or others seeking flexible temporary work, but applications are welcome from all candidates aged 18+ who meet the requirements of the role.
· No previous construction experience is required. Reliability, punctuality, willingness to follow instructions and a positive approach to work are essential.
· Must be willing to work flexibly according to site requirements and understand that shifts are not guaranteed.
· PPE / Safety Footwear: Suitable steel-toe-cap safety footwear is mandatory on site. Applicants should arrive with their own suitable safety boots where they already have them. DBR Builders (NW) Ltd will provide a safety helmet and high-visibility vest; applicants who already have their own suitable helmet and hi-vis may bring and use them subject to site approval. Where a worker does not have suitable safety footwear and it is required by the site risk assessment, DBR will provide basic compliant safety footwear free of charge. All required PPE must be worn and looked after in accordance with site rules.
Pay and Working Arrangements:
· Hourly rate: £11.50 per hour for workers aged 18-20 and £12.71 per hour for workers aged 21 and over, for all hours actually worked. Rates will be reviewed where required to remain compliant with the applicable statutory minimum wage.
· Payment will be processed weekly based on approved timesheets / booking sheets for hours actually worked. Pay will be subject to PAYE and other statutory deductions where applicable.
· Payments are made on Fridays for the preceding week's approved hours. Statutory paid holiday entitlement will accrue in accordance with applicable law.
Additional Information:
The site is in Wigan town centre, approximately an eight-minute walk from Wigan railway station. Parking close to the site will be provided. Normal site working hours are Monday-Friday, 8.00am-5.00pm, with a one-hour unpaid break. Work is offered on an ad-hoc basis according to site requirements and there is no guaranteed minimum number of shifts or hours. Strong performance and reliability may lead to the opportunity for longer-term, full-time work with increased pay.
