MJV Solicitors is a growing firm providing a wide range of legal services, specialising in civil litigation. Established in 2016, we are expanding our Housing Disrepair Team and are seeking a motivated Paralegal to join our Blackpool office.
Please note this is a full-time, office-based role.
We are currently recruiting for either a New Claims Handler or Pre-Litigation Paralegal, depending on the experience and suitability of the successful candidate and the requirements of the team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stages of their legal career to gain hands-on experience within a fast-paced litigation environment. The role provides practical experience in the early stages and pre-litigation progression of housing disrepair claims, with opportunities to develop into more advanced case-handling and fee-earning roles within the firm.
Requirements:
- Law degree, GDL or equivalent legal qualification preferred, although candidates with relevant legal or claims-handling experience will also be considered
- Strong interest in civil litigation and housing disrepair
- Previous legal or claims-handling experience would be advantageous, particularly for candidates interested in the Pre-Litigation Paralegal role
New Claims Handler – Key Responsibilities:
- Handling new enquiries from potential clients via telephone and email
- Making outbound calls and managing inbound queries
- Taking detailed instructions and assessing potential claims
- Identifying key issues, gathering evidence and assessing prospects of success
- Opening and setting up new claims on the case management system
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all client interactions
Pre-Litigation Paralegal – Key Responsibilities:
- Liaising with clients, landlords, tenants, experts and other third parties
- Making outbound calls and managing inbound queries
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all client interactions
- Drafting Letters of Claim
- Instructing surveyors, arranging inspections and chasing reports
- Liaising with landlords and tenants to arrange inspection appointments and/or repairs
- Reviewing disclosure and tenancy records
- Assessing and collating out-of-pocket expenses
- Supporting the progression of claims through the pre-litigation stages
Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a confident and professional telephone manner
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks and use initiative appropriately
- Proficient in IT systems and case management software
