Maintenance Operative (Self-Employed, Full-Time)
Multi-Skilled Handyman / General Property Maintenance
Southdown Group Limited
Southdown Group is an established property maintenance and renovation company working with landlords, letting agents and private clients across Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and surrounding areas.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced, reliable and practical maintenance operative to work with us on a full-time, self-employed basis.
This role suits someone who is confident working independently, takes pride in their work and wants consistent, organised work with a structured diary.
The Role
You’ll be carrying out a broad range of general property maintenance, repair and finishing works across domestic properties.
Work is organised, scoped and managed by our office — no chasing work, quoting customers or invoicing.
You will be expected to attend jobs, assess the task you have been sent to complete, carry out the works to a good standard and keep the office updated through our job system.
Typical work includes:
- General property repairs and maintenance
- Minor carpentry
- Door, lock, hinge and handle repairs
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Silicone, sealing and finishing works
- Patch repairs and making good
- Painting and decorating
- Kitchen and bathroom maintenance
- Blinds, curtain poles, shelving and fixture installation
- External repairs
- Strip-outs and preparation work
- Snagging and remedial works
- Material collection where required
- Supporting larger works and other trades where necessary
What We’re Looking For
- Strong general property maintenance experience
- Confident working independently
- Practical and able to problem-solve on site
- Competent across a range of general maintenance tasks
- Reliable and punctual
- Takes pride in completing jobs properly, first time
- Good attention to detail
- Able to work cleanly in occupied properties
- Comfortable following a system using a job app, updates and photographs
- Good communication with the office
- Full UK driving licence
- Own van, tools and PPE
This role does not suit someone who:
- Wants to work casually or inconsistently
- Needs constant supervision
- Cuts corners or rushes jobs
- Is only confident in one narrow area of maintenance
- Is unreliable with attendance or start times
- Is unwilling to use a job app or provide updates and photographs
- Wants to fit our work around their own private jobs
Pay & Earnings
- £25.00 per hour
- Paid monthly
- Fuel contribution where applicable
What We Offer
- Consistent, full-time work — not agency or ad-hoc
- Local jobs with limited long-distance travel
- Clear systems and structured scheduling
- Jobs scoped and organised by our office
- No quoting or chasing customers
- Organised office support
- Support from experienced trades and the wider team
- Opportunity to develop and progress within a growing company
