School Caretaker – Vacancy
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–5:30pm
Location: Twickenham (TW1)
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking and conscientious School Caretaker to join our school community. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring our school site is safe, secure, clean and well maintained, providing a welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The role would suit someone who takes pride in their work, has good practical skills and is able to work independently while also being a valued member of the wider school team.
Working Hours
Daily working hours:
- 7:00am – 9:30am – 2.5 hours
- 9:30am – 12:30pm – Unpaid break
- 12:30pm – 5:30pm – 5 hours
Total: 7.5 paid hours per day / 37.5 hours per week
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring the school premises are safe, secure and well maintained.
- Opening and securing the school site as required.
- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Monitoring the condition of buildings, grounds, fixtures and equipment.
- Supporting contractors and external visitors when required.
- Maintaining the school grounds and outdoor areas.
- Reporting defects, maintenance issues and health and safety concerns promptly.
- Carrying out regular site checks and ensuring appropriate security procedures are followed.
- Assisting with setting up rooms, furniture and equipment for school activities and events.
- Supporting the school in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and presentation.
- Responding appropriately to emergencies and site-related issues.
- Undertaking other reasonable duties associated with the role.

- Practical and confident carrying out general maintenance tasks.
- Able to work independently and use their own initiative.
- Friendly, approachable and able to communicate effectively with staff, pupils and visitors.
- Organised and able to prioritise tasks.
- Committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.
- Experienced in caretaking, facilities, maintenance or a similar role (desirable, but not essential).
