What We Are Looking For
We are currently seeking a Highways Operative to join a busy depot team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in highways or maintenance work, who is comfortable working outdoors and contributing to the upkeep of public infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out a variety of highways maintenance duties in line with council standards.
- Operate plant, tools, and equipment to maintain roads, pavements, and public areas.
- Assist with inspections, repairs, and minor construction works as required.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
- Respond to operational requests and ad-hoc tasks assigned by supervisors or managers.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work and report any faults or issues.
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient service delivery.
Person Specification
Must Have:
- Previous experience in highways maintenance, facilities, or building services.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices in a highways environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual work.
- Valid right to work in the UK.
Nice to Have:
- Experience working within a local authority or council environment.
- Knowledge of traffic management and working safely on live roads.
- Basic understanding of materials and methods used in road maintenance.
- Flexibility to work additional or varied hours when required.
