We are seeking a dedicated and pragmatic Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager to join our team. This role is standalone and would ideally suit a SHE Officer who feels ready to take on the responsibility of a management role. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and the environment. In addition, you will take the lead on all compliance and training activities across the business, ensuring we meet our legal obligations while developing a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company's SHE policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local and national regulations.
- Take ownership and provide leadership for all company compliance activities, ensuring adherence to relevant health, safety, environmental, and other applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the company's training strategy, identifying training needs, developing training plans, coordinating delivery, and maintaining accurate training records to ensure compliance and employee competence.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with department heads to create and enforce safety and environmental best practices.
- Hold managers accountable for fulfilling their health, safety, environmental, compliance, and training responsibilities, challenging non-compliance where necessary and ensuring agreed actions are completed within required timescales.
- Influence and support managers to embed a positive SHE culture, ensuring ownership of actions and continuous improvement across all departments.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-miss events to determine the root causes and develop strategies for improving our ways of working.
- Monitor and report on key SHE performance metrics to senior management, escalating areas of concern and recommending corrective actions where standards are not being met.
- Develop and deliver SHE training programmes for employees at all levels.
- Ensure all mandatory compliance training is completed, monitored, and refreshed in line with legislative and business requirements.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, legislative changes, and best practices to ensure the company's SHE, compliance, and training programmes remain effective and current.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
- Proven experience working in a SHE role within a manufacturing environment is essential.
- Strong knowledge of national health, safety, environmental, and compliance legislation.
- Experience managing compliance systems and coordinating employee training programmes.
- Confident in influencing and constructively challenging managers at all levels to ensure accountability and compliance.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Pragmatic and change-oriented approach to SHE activities.
