We look after over 200 clients, mostly owner managed businesses across interior design, food and beverage, and healthcare. We are growing, and we are looking for a qualified accountant to take real ownership of a client portfolio and to be the senior technical presence below director level.
The hours build up. Monday to Wednesday to begin with, moving to full time from Monday 16 November. That reflects a colleague taking extended leave and our own growth, and the role is permanent.
What you will do:
Own a portfolio of clients and be their main point of contact
Review year end accounts prepared by the team before they go to the client
Prepare and review corporation tax and personal tax returns
Handle VAT across the portfolio
Support new client onboarding, including professional clearance and agent authorisations
Review work prepared by junior colleagues, and mentor and develop them
Attend client meetings alongside the directors
Deal with HMRC and Companies House directly
Spot the planning points and raise them, rather than waiting to be asked
What we are looking for:
ACA or ACCA qualified, with at least five years post qualification experience in a UK accountancy practice
Able to run a portfolio to completion without supervision
Comfortable reviewing other people's work and giving useful feedback
Confident with cloud software. We run Xero, Dext, Engager and BrightPay
Happy talking to clients, including the ones who leave everything to the last minute
Why you would want this one:
A proper portfolio from day one, not a corner of someone else's
The senior technical seat below director level, with direct client and director contact rather than three layers down
A well run book. Our compliance work is up to date, so you would be starting on the front foot rather than digging out of a backlog
Interesting owner managed clients rather than a wall of identical small companies
The role is mainly technical, but in a firm this size everyone helps keep the compliance calendar moving. You will not be running it single handed, and we are recruiting a practice manager in the new year
A small team where what you do is visible
