Health Care Assistant – Stanbrook Care Home

Job Overview
We are looking for caring, reliable and compassionate Health Care Assistants (HCAs) to join our team at Stanbrook Care Home.
As a Health Care Assistant, you will support residents with their day-to-day care needs in accordance with their individual care plans, preferences and assessed needs.
You will work as part of the care team to promote residents' independence, dignity, safety and wellbeing while ensuring that care is delivered in a respectful and person-centred way.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support residents with personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, oral care, continence care and grooming.
- Promote residents' dignity, privacy, independence and individual choices at all times.
- Deliver care in accordance with each resident's individual care plan, risk assessments and identified needs.
- Support residents with mobility and transfers, using appropriate moving and handling equipment and techniques in accordance with their care plans.
- Assist residents with eating and drinking, including providing appropriate support at mealtimes and following individual dietary and fluid requirements.
- Monitor and record food and fluid intake where required.
- Observe residents' physical and emotional wellbeing and report any changes or concerns promptly to the senior member of staff.
- Provide companionship, reassurance and emotional support to residents.
- Encourage and support residents to participate in activities, social interaction and everyday choices.
- Complete care records accurately and promptly, including electronic care documentation where applicable.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure residents' personal information is handled appropriately.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including appropriate use of PPE and good hand hygiene.
- Follow safe moving and handling procedures and use equipment correctly.
- Recognise and report any safeguarding concerns immediately in accordance with company procedures.
- Report accidents, incidents, injuries, skin concerns, falls or changes in a resident's condition promptly.
- Support residents with pressure area care, repositioning and skin integrity needs where identified within their care plan.
- Respond promptly to residents' call bells and requests for assistance.
- Maintain residents' bedrooms and communal areas in a clean, safe and comfortable condition, working alongside the wider team.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with residents, relatives, colleagues and visiting professionals.
- Attend handovers and ensure important information regarding residents' care and wellbeing is communicated appropriately.
- Complete all mandatory training and maintain the knowledge and competencies required for the role.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, infection control, moving and handling, confidentiality and equality and diversity.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties associated with the role of a Health Care Assistant.
Requirements
- A caring, compassionate and respectful approach to supporting older people and adults with care needs.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to treat residents with dignity and respect and recognise their individual choices and preferences.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, professional and able to follow instructions, care plans and risk assessments.
- Ability to recognise changes in a resident's wellbeing and report concerns appropriately.
- Willingness to complete all required training and competency assessments.
- Basic IT skills and willingness to use electronic care recording systems.
- Previous experience within a care home, healthcare or similar care environment is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
- Relevant care qualifications, such as the Care Certificate or Level 2/3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, would be advantageous.
