Competitive salary, dependent on experience £35,000.00 - £42,000.00
About Arkonik
Arkonik restores and reimagines classic Land Rover Defenders for clients around the world.
Every vehicle is individually specified and built to an exceptional standard. We are not a high-volume accident repair centre or production paint line. Our focus is craftsmanship, attention to detail and producing finishes that complement the quality of the complete vehicle.
We are looking for an experienced Paint Shop Manager / Senior Paint Technician to lead our paint department while remaining actively involved in the preparation and painting of our vehicles.
The Role
This is a hands-on position for someone who takes genuine pride in their work and understands that exceptional results require patience, discipline and attention to detail.
You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the paint shop, supporting and developing the team, maintaining high standards and ensuring vehicles progress through the department efficiently without compromising quality.
The successful candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of the department while also working alongside the team on vehicle preparation, refinishing and final quality control.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the day-to-day operation and workflow of the paint shop.
* Prepare, prime, paint and finish vehicle bodies, panels and components.
* Produce consistently high-quality paint finishes across a wide range of colours and paint systems.
* Inspect completed work and ensure it meets Arkonik’s quality standards before progressing.
* Plan workloads and allocate work effectively across the department.
* Support, guide and develop paint shop team members.
* Work collaboratively with the body shop, production and quality teams.
* Identify and resolve quality issues at the earliest opportunity.
* Ensure equipment, spray booths and working areas are properly maintained.
* Monitor paint, materials and consumable requirements.
* Maintain accurate records where required.
* Ensure safe working practices are followed, including the correct use of PPE, respiratory protection and extraction equipment.
* Promote a positive, professional and respectful working environment.
* Contribute ideas that improve quality, efficiency and the overall operation of the department.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
* Has significant experience as an automotive paint technician, ideally working on prestige, classic, restoration or custom vehicles.
* Can demonstrate an exceptional standard of preparation and refinishing.
* Is experienced with colour matching, blending and defect rectification.
* Understands that quality should not be rushed.
* Has strong attention to detail and takes personal pride in the finished result.
* Is organised and able to manage competing priorities.
* Is a dependable and supportive team player.
* Communicates clearly and professionally.
* Is willing to take responsibility and lead by example.
* Remains calm and constructive when solving problems.
* Treats colleagues, customers, vehicles and the workplace with respect.
* Is committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
Previous supervisory or management experience would be beneficial, although we would also consider an outstanding senior paint technician who is ready to progress into a leadership position.
A relevant automotive refinishing qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where a candidate can demonstrate suitable experience and ability.
What We Offer
* The opportunity to work on individually commissioned Land Rover Defenders.
* A quality-focused environment where craftsmanship is valued.
* Interesting and varied projects rather than repetitive accident repair work.
* The opportunity to influence and develop the paint department.
* Support from an experienced production and management team.
* Training and professional development opportunities.
* Competitive salary based on experience.
* Company pension.
* Holiday entitlement.
* Employee benefits and staff events.
* A long-term position within an established and internationally recognised automotive business.
Working Hours - Monday - Friday (7am-4pm)
