Forest Friend (Companion)
Could you become someone’s favourite part of the week?
At Forest Companions, we believe that loneliness can be just as challenging as illness.
We’re looking for warm, reliable and compassionate people to join our growing team as Forest Friends—people who genuinely enjoy spending time with older members of our community.
This isn’t a traditional care role.
There are no rushed 30-minute visits, no washing or dressing clients, no medication administration and no personal care.
Instead, we provide relaxed, meaningful companionship that helps older people stay independent, connected and enjoying life.
What you might do during a visit
Every client is different, but visits could include:
Sharing a cup of tea and good conversation
Gardening together
Looking through treasured family photographs
Playing games or completing a jigsaw
Helping with phones, tablets or video calls
Baking together
Collecting shopping or prescriptions
Accompanying clients by taxi to appointments, cafés, garden centres or the seaside
Enjoying a gentle walk together
Light help around the home such as fluffing cushions, watering plants or helping keep things tidy
Most importantly… becoming a familiar, friendly face that someone genuinely looks forward to seeing.
This role is NOT personal care
You will not be expected to:
- Assist with washing or dressing
- Support toileting
- Administer medication
- Carry out lifting or moving
- Perform clinical or nursing duties
We’re looking for people who are…
✔ Naturally kind
✔ Great listeners
✔ Patient and reliable
✔ Friendly and positive
✔ Comfortable chatting with people from all walks of life
✔ Looking for meaningful part-time work that genuinely makes a difference
Experience in care is welcome but not essential.
Some of our best Forest Friends may be retired teachers, nurses, parents returning to work, semi-retired professionals or simply caring people who enjoy helping others.
