We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Equine Head Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Wendover Park Equine on a full-time basis.
Our friendly and supportive equine team manages a varied caseload, from pony club ponies and leisure horses to competition horses and the occasional donkey. We benefit from excellent onsite facilities, including an equine theatre, treatment room, stabling, paddocks, lunge areas and a wide range of diagnostic equipment such as x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy and dental tools. You'll work alongside our experienced in-house team and visiting specialists, gaining exposure to a diverse range of cases and procedures.

As an Equine Head Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high-quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences.
You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.
Working Pattern
- Full-time working 40 hours per week
- 5 working days with variable 8-hour shifts between 8:00am and 7:00pm
- Provide occasional overnight inpatient care as required, with additional out-of-hours retainer payments available
- Participate in the practice's out-of-hours service, including weekday and weekend inpatient and telephone cover
General Responsibilities
- Provide day patient and inpatient care, including mucking out, daily checks and administering medications
- Process laboratory samples for both in-house analysis and external laboratories
- Process prescriptions, manage bookings, oversee the diary and communicate with clients
- Manage the rota and diary to ensure the practice runs smoothly and efficiently
- Carry out weekly stock ordering, stock management and stock takes
- Assist with lameness work-ups, including trotting up, lunging and handling horses during veterinary examinations and nerve blocks
- Set up and assist with diagnostic procedures including x-rays, ultrasound, gastroscopy, endoscopy and dental procedures
We’re looking for a confident and motivated Head Registered Veterinary Nurse or Head Equine Veterinary Nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and delivering high standards of care. You’ll bring:
- Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
- Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
- A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
