Job Description: Junior Product Design Engineer
Location: Northwich, UK
Terms: Permanent | Full Time
Hours of Work: Monday – Friday | 09:00 – 17:00 (with 1-hour lunch)
Reporting to: Design Manager
About the Role
Working within the core Design Department, you will focus on developing innovative new products as well as maintaining and optimizing existing product lines.
This role is ideal for an engineer with 3 to 4 years of industry experience looking to take ownership of designs while working collaboratively within a supportive team environment. You will be an organized self-starter, comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously, and capable of communicating technical concepts clearly across all levels of the business.
Key Responsibilities
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- To develop new lighting product concepts with the design team to complement cutting edge architectural trends
- Understanding of the relationship between art, science and technology. As a product designer, you will spend your time planning, designing and modelling products, producing prototypes and conducting rigorous testing.
- Conceptual light fitting design including light engine, drivers and mechanical enclosure / fixing production of small lighting models
- Devising full scale working lighting mock-ups in collaboration with suppliers,
- Analysis and evaluation of mock-ups
- Creating detailed designs using computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and producing technical specifications, detailing materials required.
- Work in collaboration with a variety of professionals, including interior designers, engineers and architects.
- Must be organised multi-taskers who can juggle multiple assignments at once
- Must be a good team player and work well with a diverse team overseas
- Analytical and creative to solve problems while also designing lighting systems that meet the aesthetic and design needs of clients.
- Ability to work under pressure
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 3–4 years of professional design/engineering experience (preferably within lighting, consumer electronics, or enclosure design).
- Education: Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- CAD Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or Fusion 360).
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of materials, manufacturing techniques (extrusions, castings, plastics), thermal management, and ingress protection (IP ratings).
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal production teams, suppliers, and clients.
