The Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network in conjunction with the Community Respiratory Service , have secured funding until March 202 7 , to continue running a number of new services across Morecambe Bay, including (but not limited to) Pulmonary rehabilitation .
We require a full-time Clinical Support Worker to support the running of Pulmonary rehabilitation in Barrow. This is a temporary contract ( pending a recurrent funding decision in 2027).
We are looking for a patient-focussed, friendly, motivating, kind and respectful colleague to join our team, to support our Barrow patients to get the most from their Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes.
This time limited post would be ideal for an experienced clinical support worker or therapy assistant, with existing knowledge of NHS therapy, exercise /rehabilitation environments. This role would also be ideal for a trainee or newly qualified OT / Physiotherapist wishing to gain experience in a rehabilitation setting.
Main duties of the role are outlined in the attached job description, but to support the PR programme delivery you will be expected to:
Phone patients to discuss and explain the PR programme and arrange appointments
Dealing with patients in a kind, respectful and sensitive manner when they contact the team (including people who are breathless and in distress)
Work with our clinical team to assess patients with chronic lung disease for the pulmonary rehabilitation group programme (this includes walk tests, observation testing, strength testing and supporting patients to complete symptom questionnaires)
Support the delivery and successful running of the Pulmonary rehabilitation exercise and education classes
Develop knowledge of health inequalities (through provided training) to provide additional support as needed to those residents living in the CORE20 areas of Barrow, so that they can attend and benefit from the PR treatment
Scanning of clinical paperwork onto EMIS web clinical system and completing patient consultation notes
Work towards National Pulmonary rehabilitation clinical competencies and engage in local clinical skills training
Some administrative tasks (preparing patient packs/photocopying)
Data inputting into local excel database for our National audit
The Community Respiratory Service is based across 3 offices in Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow (not on acute hospital sites). The Barrow Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme and our Barrow office are located in Alfred Barrow health centre
UHMBT operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.
