1. Role Purpose
The Data Analyst will collect, organise, cleanse, validate and analyse the data AltHub works with and provide accurate and actionable information to support further AI/ML modelling by the data science team.
The role will focus particularly on data quality, data integrity, reconciliation, exploratory analysis, reporting and the investigation of data-related issues. The Data Analyst will work with data science team and technical stakeholders to identify trends, patterns, anomalies and data-quality issues and translate analytical findings into practical recommendations.
The role will also support the analysis and quality evaluation of datasets used in AI/ML analysis where required.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesData Collection, Preparation and Quality
· Gather and organise data from client applications, operational systems and other relevant data sources.
· Clean, prepare and standardise datasets for analysis.
· Identify and resolve, or escalate, duplicate, incomplete, inconsistent or inaccurate records.
· Perform data-quality checks to assess completeness, consistency, accuracy and validity.
· Reconcile data between source systems, reports and datasets and investigate discrepancies.
· Develop and maintain documented data-quality procedures, validation rules and processes.
· Investigate the root causes of recurring data-quality and data-integrity problems.
Data Analysis
· Conduct exploratory analysis of datasets.
· Apply descriptive statistical techniques to understand data characteristics and identify significant trends and patterns.
· Support forecasting, classification and other analytical activities where appropriate.
· Interpret analytical results in the context of modelling requirements.
Reporting and Presentation
· Produce regular and ad-hoc analytical reports for data science team and other technical stakeholders.
· Create clear tables, charts and other visual representations of data to communicate findings.
· Translate analytical findings into clear conclusions and practical recommendations.
· Maintain appropriate documentation and audit trails supporting analytical outputs.
Data Investigation and Business Support
· Investigate data-related incidents and reported discrepancies.
· Work with clients to reproduce issues, identify root causes and define corrective actions.
· Validate proposed data corrections before modelling phase.
· Support the assessment and validation of changes to business systems, reports and data processes.
· Monitor recurring data issues and identify opportunities for process or system improvements.
AI / Machine Learning Data Quality
· Support the preparation, validation and quality assessment of datasets used by data science team in AI and machine-learning modelling.
· Review and evaluate data and model outputs against defined quality criteria.
· Identify inconsistent, ambiguous or anomalous data and document findings.
· Apply agreed evaluation criteria consistently and escalate complex or ambiguous cases.
· Contribute to improvements in data-quality guidelines and processes based on recurring findings.

4. Essential Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
· Professional experience in data analysis, data quality, business systems analysis or a closely related analytical discipline.
· Experience working with various datasets.
· Experience identifying and investigating data-quality and data-integrity issues.
· Strong data cleansing, validation and reconciliation skills.
· Experience performing exploratory data analysis and descriptive statistical analysis.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
· Experience documenting data requirements, analytical findings, issues and corrective actions.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· High attention to detail and the ability to work accurately with large volumes of information.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
5. Desirable Skills and Experience
The following would be advantageous:
· Experience with finance, accounting, procurement or other transactional business data.
· Experience with data visualisation and business intelligence tools.
· Experience with AI/ML datasets or model-output evaluation.
· Relevant professional or postgraduate qualification in data, information technology, analytics, business analysis or a related field.
6. Qualifications
· Degree or equivalent professional experience in data analysis, information technology, business analysis, mathematics, statistics, computer science or a related discipline.
7. Role Is Classification: SOC 3544
This position is classified under SOC 2020 code 3544 – Data Analysts because its principal duties involve gathering, organising, cleansing, validating and analysing datasets; identifying trends, patterns and anomalies; producing analytical reports and visualisations; and presenting findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The role also incorporates data-quality responsibilities, consistent with the ONS’s related occupation title Data Quality Analyst.
The role is therefore centred on genuine data-analysis and data-quality activities rather than data entry, administrative processing or general IT support.
9. Salary and Working Hours
Annual salary: £42,000
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week
Employment: Full-time, permanent
The current Home Office occupation tables list SOC 3544 Data Analysts with a going rate of £34,900 based on a 37.5-hour working week.
SOC 3544 is currently included on the Temporary Shortage List, subject to the applicable immigration rules and timing requirements.
10. Recruitment and Selection
