We are a friendly, independent café looking for an experienced Café & Kitchen Assistant / Barista to join our team. We are passionate about quality coffee, fresh food and excellent customer service, and we're looking for someone who is reliable, energetic and enjoys working in a busy café environment.
This is a hands-on role. As well as making coffee and serving customers, you will also be expected to support the kitchen team with food preparation and service, including preparing our popular open toasts.
What You'll Be Doing
- Welcome customers and provide friendly, efficient service
- Take orders accurately and process payments using our till system
- Prepare high-quality speciality coffees and other hot and cold drinks
- Assist in the kitchen with food preparation and service
- Prepare open toasts, sandwiches, salads and other light meals to our standards
- Carry out daily food prep and ensure ingredients are ready for service
- Help with plating and presenting food during busy periods
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and café
- Restock supplies and report low stock to the manager
- Follow food hygiene, health and safety standards
- Answer customer questions and handle dietary requirements and allergies carefully
- Work closely with the team to keep service running smoothly during busy periods
What We're Looking For
- Previous barista experience is essential
- Previous café, kitchen or hospitality experience is highly desirable
- Comfortable working both behind the coffee machine and in the kitchen
- Confident preparing simple food and willing to learn our menu
- Able to carry out food preparation efficiently and to a consistent standard
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Able to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
- Comfortable using a till and handling payments
- Reliable, punctual and a strong team player
- Good understanding of food hygiene and safe working practices
- Weekend availability, including Saturdays and Sundays is essential
