We are seeking an experienced Heritage Contracts Manager to oversee the successful delivery of heritage construction projects. This role is ideal for a commercially astute construction professional with a strong understanding of conservation principles and the complexities of working within historic environments.
You will be responsible for managing multiple heritage projects, leading project teams, and ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and in full compliance with requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery of heritage and listed building projects from pre-construction through to completion
- Manage site teams, construction managers, and subcontractors
- Ensure compliance with conservation best practice, listed building consent, and heritage legislation
- Liaise with clients, conservation officers, architects, and heritage consultants
- Monitor programme, quality, cost control, and commercial performance
- Manage risk, change control, and contractual obligations
- Ensure health & safety standards are consistently met across all projects
- Support tendering, procurement, and subcontractor selection, including specialist trades
- Provide regular progress reports to senior management and clients
About You
- Proven experience as a Contracts Manager within heritage/conservation/listed building construction
- Strong knowledge of traditional construction methods and materials
- Sound understanding of conservation requirements and statutory approvals
- Excellent commercial and contractual awareness
- SMSTS
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, with an adaptable approach to changing project requirements
Desirable
- Qualification in Construction Management, Building Conservation, or a related discipline
- Experience working with conservation officers and heritage bodies
