*Dementia-Friendly Mobile Hairdresser - Care Homes | South West*
*The Role*
We’re looking for a kind, patient, and experienced Hairdresser/Barber to join our mobile team. You’ll be visiting residential and dementia care homes across the South West, providing gentle, in-room haircuts and styling for residents who can’t visit a salon.
This isn’t a high-pressure salon floor. It’s 1-to-1, unhurried appointments in a calm environment. You’ll be helping residents feel cared for, comfortable, and dignified.
*What you’ll be doing*
1. *Haircuts & beard trims*: Wet cut, dry cut, clipper work, simple styling. No colour, no chemicals.
2. *Working with residents living with dementia*: Short, calm sessions, flexible timing, experience with non-verbal or anxious clients is key.
3. *In-room service*: Setting up quietly in bedrooms or care home activity rooms. Keeping things clean, safe, and low-stimulus.
4. *Liaising with care staff*: Working around care plans, mealtimes, and sundowning. Building trust with Home Managers and Activities Coordinators.
5. *Maintaining standards*: Full infection control, cleaning tools between clients, following each home’s health & safety policy.
*What we need from you*
1. *NVQ Level 2/3 in Hairdressing or Barbering* or equivalent proven experience
2. *Valid DBS Certificate* - _essential, must be in-date_. We cannot consider applicants without this.
3. *Dementia awareness training* or experience working with older/vulnerable adults - _desirable, but we can support training_
4. *Public Liability Insurance* + your own tools
5. *Car driver + DBS-checked*: You’ll need your own transport to travel between homes
6. *Calm, empathetic, reliable*: Great communication skills with residents, families, and care staff
*What’s NOT in this role*
No salon reception work, no colouring, no eyelash extensions, no sales targets or upselling. Just quality, compassionate hairdressing where it’s needed most.
*Pay & Hours*
Self-employed/contract basis. Flexible days, typically 1-3 days/week to start. Per-client or day rate. Mileage paid.
