As a Nursery Room Leader you’ll lead a team of practitioners and apprentices, bringing energy, creativity and purpose to the day. From planning engaging EYFS activities to supporting children's individual development, you’ll play a key role in making sure every child receives the care, encouragement and learning opportunities they deserve.
We’re looking for someone who can confidently lead from the front while remaining hands-on, approachable and passionate about working directly with children.
Responsibilities of a Nursery Room Leader:
- Lead the day-to-day running of your designated room, maintaining consistently high standards.
- Create a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment where every child feels confident.
- Plan and deliver creative, age-appropriate activities in line with the EYFS Framework.
- Observe, assess and plan children's learning and development.
- Lead, motivate and support practitioners and apprentices, helping them grow.
- Be a positive role model and champion excellent early years practice across your room.
- Develop warm, professional relationships with parents and carers, keeping families informed.
- Promote children's health, wellbeing, welfare and emotional security.
- Work closely with the Nursery Management Team to maintain high standards and improve practice.
- Monitor your room's resources, risk assessments and learning environment.
- Ensure policies, safeguarding procedures and regulatory requirements are followed consistently.
- Contribute to team meetings, supervisions, appraisals and professional development.
Requirements of a Nursery Room Leader:
- A relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification or equivalent.
- At least 3 years' experience working within an early years childcare setting.
- Previous experience, or the confidence and capability to step into a leadership position.
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS Framework and how to put it into practice.
- A thorough understanding of safeguarding, child protection and welfare requirements.
- Knowledge of Ofsted expectations and high-quality early years practice.
- A strong understanding of children's development and how young children learn through play and meaningful experiences.
- Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills.
- The ability to motivate a team while building positive, professional relationships.
- A commitment to confidentiality and professional standards.
