Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Responsible Individual to help oversee our Therapeutic Children’s Residential Care services.
The successful candidate will ensure the delivery of high-quality care in accordance with regulatory standards, safeguarding the well-being of children in our care. This role requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as a compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable young children. The Responsible Individual will be responsible for maintaining compliance with all legal and organisational requirements, fostering a positive environment, and supervising staff to deliver person-centred care.
Responsibilities
The Responsible Individual (RI) will oversee the operation of the children's care home on behalf of the registered provider, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and quality standards. The RI will provide governance, monitoring, and strategic oversight to promote safe, effective, and high-quality care for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
· Visit the home at least once per week to monitor service quality, safeguarding practices, and regulatory compliance.
· Support the Registered Manager in maintaining high standards of care and achieving positive outcomes for children.
· Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Children's Homes (England) Regulations and Quality Standards.
· Monitor safeguarding arrangements and ensure any concerns are appropriately addressed.
· Review incidents, complaints, restraints, notifications, and safeguarding referrals.
· Assess the effectiveness of care planning, risk assessments, and placement matching.
· Meet with children, team, and management as required to gain feedback on service delivery.
· Provide written reports and recommendations following each visit.
· Support preparations for inspections and monitor action plans arising from inspections.
· Ensure policies, procedures, and governance systems remain effective and up to date.
· Escalate significant concerns to the provider/directors and relevant authorities where necessary.
Essential Requirements
· Significant experience working within children's residential care.
· Thorough knowledge of children's home regulations, safeguarding requirements, and Ofsted expectations.
· Previous experience as a Responsible Individual, Nominated Individual or Operations Manager within children's social care.
· Enhanced DBS check.
· Strong communication, leadership, and report-writing skills.
· Ability to work independently and provide objective oversight.
Desirable Qualifications
· Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
· Relevant professional qualification.
· Experience supporting homes through Ofsted inspections.
Deliverables
· One monitoring and governance visit per week.
· Written visit report with findings, recommendations, and actions.
· Ongoing advice and support to the Registered Manager and Provider.
· Availability for occasional consultation between visits, as required.
Remuneration: £400 per visit, subject to experience and qualifications.
