Join a Leading UK Manufacturer
We are looking for an experienced AWL Welding Robot Operative to join our manufacturing team at our Oldham facility. As one of the UK's leading manufacturers of fire sprinkler pipework, we supply critical life-safety products to customers nationwide.
This is a highly skilled technical role operating a fully automated AWL welding robot system. We are seeking a technically capable individual with strong welding knowledge, CNC or automated machinery experience, and the ability to programme, set up, monitor, and optimise robotic welding processes.
This is not a basic welding position. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of welding principles, machine programming, engineering tolerances, quality control, and automated manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Robotic Welding & CNC Operation
· Set up, programme, and operate the AWL fully automatic welding robot.
· Input and adjust machine parameters in line with engineering drawings and production specifications.
· Monitor automated welding cycles to ensure consistent quality and maximum productivity.
· Make real-time adjustments to improve weld quality, efficiency, and machine performance.
· Carry out routine machine inspections, identify faults, and perform basic troubleshooting.
· Maintain dimensional accuracy and work to tight engineering tolerances.
· Load and unload components safely and efficiently into the automated welding cell.
Welding & Technical Support
· Identify and rectify welding defects including porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, and misalignment.
· Carry out grinding and finishing operations where required to achieve visual and surface quality standards.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, improve efficiency, and minimise downtime.
· Utilise strong IT skills to operate production systems and record manufacturing data where required.
Quality Assurance
· Conduct visual inspections and dimensional checks before components progress to the next manufacturing stage.
· Ensure all products meet internal quality standards and relevant industry specifications.
· Accurately record production and quality information.
· Follow company quality procedures and manufacturing standards at all times.
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
· Comply fully with all workshop health and safety procedures.
· Wear and maintain appropriate PPE at all times.
· Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
· Promptly report machine faults, safety concerns, or production issues.
About You
Essential
· Experience operating CNC machinery, automated welding systems, or robotic welding equipment.
· Strong understanding of welding parameters, tolerances, and defect prevention.
· Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
· Experience setting up, adjusting, and optimising machine programmes.
· Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
· Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
· Good understanding of manufacturing health and safety practices.
· Strong IT skills.
Desirable
· Experience working with welding robots or similar robotic welding systems.
· Proven MIG welding experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
· Experience within sprinkler systems, pipework, or fire protection manufacturing.
· Fabrication or pipefitting background.
· Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies.

Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
· 1–3 years' experience operating CNC, automated, or robotic welding machinery.
· Experience loading and unloading components within automated welding cells.
