Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced 2nd Chef to join our culinary team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the head chef in preparing high-quality dishes, supervising kitchen staff, and ensuring smooth kitchen operations. Duties
- Assist the head chef in preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards
- Supervise and manage kitchen staff during service, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality food preparation
- Oversee food production processes, ensuring consistency, presentation, and adherence to hygiene standards
- Support in planning menus, managing inventory, and ordering supplies as needed
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness of the kitchen environment
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive team environment
- Monitor portion control and minimise waste to optimise operational efficiency
- Serve as a key team member during busy service hours, maintaining professionalism and composure under pressure
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a similar role within a busy restaurant or hospitality setting
- Supervising experience with strong leadership capabilities
- Extensive knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations
- Solid understanding of food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Strong team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff
- Previous experience in food production, culinary arts, or hospitality is essential
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Relevant culinary qualifications or certifications are preferred but not mandatory
