Senior Driver (North East Region) | Job Description
Location: Head Office, Whitley Bay
Role Purpose
The Logistics Manager is responsible for the efficient coordination of transport operations across our North East England network. Based at our Whitley Bay Head Office, you will lead a dedicated team of drivers to ensure the seamless movement of stock between our regional charity stores & the timely collection & delivery of goods from our supporters.
The role would include a minimum of 3 days working on the vans
Key Responsibilities
1. Team & Rota Management
- Lead & motivate a team of drivers operating across the North East.
- Create & manage driver rotas, ensuring all delivery & collection slots are fully covered.
- Oversee annual leave requests & manage sickness absence to maintain operational continuity.
2. Regional Transport & Fleet Coordination
- Organise store to store stock transfers within the North East region to ensure all retail outlets are adequately supplied.
- Coordinate furniture collections & large item deliveries for regional customers & donors.
- Plan routes effectively across the North East road network to minimise fuel consumption & maximise daily productivity.
3. Vehicle Maintenance & Compliance
- Ensure the entire regional fleet of vans is roadworthy & compliant with UK transport laws.
- Schedule & monitor regular servicing, MOTs, & any necessary repairs in a timely manner.
- Conduct regular vehicle safety checks & ensure drivers maintain clean & professional vehicles.
Person Specification
- Experience: Proven experience in logistics, transport management, or a similar supervisory role.
- Geographical Knowledge: Strong familiarity with the North East England road networks & geography.
- Organisation: Exceptional skills in rota management & route planning.
- Communication: Ability to lead a team & communicate effectively with store managers & donors.
- Compliance Knowledge: A solid understanding of vehicle maintenance requirements & health & safety regulations.
- Commitment: Must be supportive of the charity’s values & mission.
