Personal Assistant – Join My Care Team (Day shifts) – Plymouth
I'm a man in my 30s with a neuromuscular condition, looking for new people to join my established care team in Plymouth.
You will be reliable, willing to learn new skill and keen to contribute to the team dynamics. The day time role requires a person who is focused on good care, accurate and careful medical care and who understands the importance of supporting me to go out.
As you will be working 30 - 35 hrs a week you will be key to the efficient running of the team and have good communication skills. An element of the role will be to ensure the easy running of the care team and all that entails. This role could develop and become a supporting role in the running of the care team.
The basics
- £15.00–£16.00 per hour (day shifts)
- Rotas published 3 weeks in advance
- Paid training, free DBS, workplace pension, Blue Light Card eligibility, enhanced bank holiday pay.
- You'd be working directly for me rather than through an agency, which means a steady team, regular hours, and you actually get to know everyone in the team properly.
- I value team members with relevant lived experience of care.
- I also welcome those with previous complex care skills who want to learn more.
- Full UK manual driving licence essential (my wheelchair-adapted van is manual, and my insurance only covers manual licence holders)
- No visa sponsorship available – you must already have the right to work in the UK
About me: I like a wide variety of music; I have an interest in the natural world and a keen interest in films and general knowledge.
The shifts We're recruiting for days, but we do have nights available in the near future, and you can apply for either or both(please specify on your covering email/letter):
- Day shifts: 30–35 hrs/week, various shifts between 08:00 and 23:00, 5 days including alternate weekends
- Waking nights: 21:00 to 08:00, 2-3 nights per week including alternate weekends
What you'd be doing (training provided):
- Supporting my breathing – I use a ventilator and cough-assist machine 24/7. Full professional training is provided, as this is a clinical skill. You will receive constant support/shadowing to build up your confidence and skill levels - you will soon be competent in these tasks.
- Moving me safely using a ceiling track hoist
- Personal care, assistance with feeding, giving medication
- Supporting the care of my Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN).
- Helping with daily physiotherapy exercises
- Driving me out to do the things I want to do
- Light housework around the home
What I'm looking for:
- Considerate, reliable, with good common sense.
- Happy in a small team and confident lone-working for parts of the day.
- Willing to learn – aptitude and empathy matter more to me than prior experience
- Comfortable around medical equipment once trained.
Helpful but not required: prior care experience (paid, unpaid, family, or healthcare student placements all count). We can teach you the rest.
