Hymans Robertson Investment Services (HRIS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hymans Robertson LLP, manages a fast-growing discretionary fund management (DFM) proposition in the UK. We design and manage a model portfolio service (MPS) for professional clients, primarily UK financial adviser firms.
Our portfolios are built using a range of underlying funds across different asset classes and investment approaches, including both active and passive strategies, helping advisers meet the diverse needs of their clients.
We're looking for a Client Portfolio Manager to join our team in either Edinburgh, Glasgow or London.
What will your role look like?
As a Client Portfolio Manager, you'll act as an investment specialist and trusted partner to our adviser clients. You'll play a key role in building and strengthening relationships, helping advisers understand our investment approach, portfolio positioning and performance.
You'll attend adviser investment committees, support Relationship Directors with prospecting and onboarding activities, contribute to investment mandate design, and respond to a variety of investment-related queries. The role also offers opportunities to be involved in investment research, analysis and thought leadership content.
Working closely with our investment managers and analysts, you'll develop a deep understanding of our investment philosophy, portfolio construction and performance drivers. Reporting to the HRIS Chief Investment Officer (CIO), you'll collaborate with colleagues across the wider HRIS team to deliver a high-quality experience for our clients.
Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:
-
Attending adviser firm investment committees, both virtually and in person, to discuss portfolio positioning, recent market developments and investment performance.
-
Supporting Relationship Directors with business development and sales activity by understanding adviser requirements, contributing to investment workshops and helping shape appropriate portfolio solutions.
-
Working closely with Investment Managers to build and maintain the knowledge required to communicate investment matters confidently and effectively to prospective and existing clients.
-
Responding to client queries on a wide range of topics, including our investment approach, portfolio changes, rebalancing, risk profiling and broader market-related questions.
-
Contributing to the development of client-facing materials, including reporting, presentations, brochures and welcome packs.
-
Helping to improve and develop efficient processes that support client communications and engagement, while working collaboratively with colleagues across risk and compliance.
To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have:
-
Experience communicating investment propositions to professional clients.
-
Experience within the UK advised retail market would be beneficial, though we're also keen to hear from candidates with an institutional investment background.
-
A broad understanding of investment markets, asset classes and fund implementation. Knowledge of areas such as equities, fixed income, property, infrastructure and quantitative investment approaches would be advantageous.
-
Experience creating and coordinating client-facing presentations and supporting documentation.
-
Strong organisational skills, with a structured and dependable approach to your work.
-
Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
-
The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines.
-
A proactive mindset, with a willingness to share ideas and contribute to continuous improvement.
-
A collaborative approach and the ability to build effective partnerships with colleagues and clients alike.
We recognise that no candidate will meet every requirement. If your experience aligns with many of the skills and qualities listed above, we'd still encourage you to apply. We're committed to supporting the development of our people and helping you build the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in the role.
In addition to a competitive salary and access to our profit share scheme, we offer:
-
A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
-
A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
-
On site mental health and wellbeing assistance.
-
A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire.
-
Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day’s leave to celebrate your birthday.
-
Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments – with the expectation of two ‘in-office’ days per week.
-
A flexible working window, allowing colleagues the freedom to work flexibly between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
We work alongside employers, trustees and financial services institutions, offering independent pensions, investments, benefits and risk consulting services, as well as data and technology solutions.
That's the who and the what. More important is the 'why'. The work we do may not always seem the sexiest. But it's difficult, it's complex, and it's important. We help our clients, their employees, members and customers make decisions that have real and direct consequences on their financial futures.
For 100 years we've taken this responsibility seriously. Together, as a team and with our clients and partners, we're here to build better futures.
