Purpose
The Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer are responsible for leading the transformation of the infrastructure function into a modern Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. Working with the SRE Lead and VP of Information Security, this role plays a central part in shaping how the organisation builds, runs, and secures the cloud infrastructure that underpins every Causeway product.
As a senior member of the team, the role holder owns the organisation's most complex infrastructure challenges and acts as a technical leader — setting standards, mentoring engineers, and ensuring every Causeway product runs on infrastructure that is secure, resilient, and aligned to recognised frameworks including ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Benchmarks, and Cyber Essentials Plus. The role works in close partnership with DevOps and Engineering to identify and bridge skills gaps across the function, with a particular focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Lead the transformation of the Infrastructure team into a modern SRE function, working with the SRE Lead and VP of Information Security, ensuring every Causeway product runs on infrastructure built and operated to ISO 27001, NIST, CIS, and Cyber Essentials Plus standards
- Define and embed best-practice CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code standards across the estate, enabling smooth, rapid, and secure delivery of code to production
- Own the design and operation of monitoring, logging, and alerting across the platform to proactively identify and resolve performance, reliability, and security issues before they impact customers
- Act as senior technical point of contact for key customers, owning complex and high-impact issues end to end and ensuring their service meets agreed standards and supports overall product stability
- Drive continuous improvement across infrastructure cost, reliability, performance, and security posture, ensuring the estate remains aligned to ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Benchmarks, and Cyber Essentials Plus
- Identify skills gaps across the SRE function and work with DevOps and Engineering to bridge them, including mentoring engineers, raising the capability bar on Infrastructure as Code, and embedding emerging tools and practices
- Act as senior escalation point for complex cloud and infrastructure issues, supporting the IT and engineering teams in resolving incidents that fall outside business-as-usual
- Create and maintain high-quality, auditable technical documentation of systems, architecture, and procedures, ensuring knowledge is shared and standards are sustained across the team
- Manage and optimise cloud estate costs, identifying opportunities to reduce spend and supporting the teams in maintaining financial performance
