We are looking for a creative, practical, and enthusiastic junior interior designer / space planner to help with the redesign and improvement of our home.
This would be a great opportunity for a recent interior design graduate, newly qualified designer, or someone in the early stages of their career who is looking to gain hands-on experience, develop their portfolio and work collaboratively on a real residential project.
We are not looking for a large interior design studio or a high-end design service. Instead, we would like to work directly with an individual who has a good eye for design, brings fresh ideas and can suggest attractive, practical solutions while being mindful of budget.
Scope of the project may include:
- Colour schemes and overall room concepts
- Wallpaper, paint and finish recommendations
- Furniture selection, layout and positioning
- Shelving, wardrobes and practical storage solutions
- Lighting ideas
- Improving room layout, flow and use of space
- Mood boards, layouts and simple visual concepts
- Sourcing or recommending suitable furniture, finishes and accessories
- Practical, modern and budget-conscious design solutions
We would ideally like to hear from someone who:
- Is a recent interior design graduate, junior designer or early-career freelancer
- Has a strong interest in residential interior design and space planning
- Has a creative eye but also considers practicality, functionality and budget
- Can produce mood boards, layouts, sketches or simple visual concepts
- Is comfortable discussing ideas and developing them collaboratively with us
- Is reliable, approachable and communicates well
- Is local or reasonably nearby and available for occasional visits to the property
Previous professional experience is not essential. We are very happy to consider university/college projects, personal projects, concept work or other examples that demonstrate your design ability and ideas.
Starting with one room
Initially, we would like to work together on one room/project. If it is a good fit on both sides, there is potential to expand the project to additional rooms within the property.
If you are interested, please send:
- A short introduction and a little about your background
- Examples of your work, portfolio, student projects or design concepts
- Your location
- Your availability
- An indication of your pricing or preferred fee structure
We are particularly interested in finding someone who is talented, practical and at the beginning of their interior design career, rather than engaging a large or expensive design studio.
If you are looking for an opportunity to apply your ideas to a real home, build your portfolio and potentially become involved in a larger ongoing project, we would be very happy to hear from you!
Pay: £13.00-£20.00 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Penarth
