We are looking for an experienced and organised Assistant to the Transport Manager to join our busy manufacturing operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous transport administration or logistics experience who understands the importance of keeping drivers, vehicles, schedules, and compliance requirements running smoothly.
Working closely with the Transport Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation, helping to ensure our transport function remains compliant, efficient, and well organised.
What you'll be doing:
Your role will be varied and hands-on, including:
- Supporting the Transport Manager with the daily running of the transport operation
- Assisting with driver administration, records, and documentation
- Coordinating transport planning and scheduling to help keep operations running efficiently
- Maintaining accurate driver and vehicle records
- Supporting transport compliance and ensuring legal and regulatory documentation is kept up to date
- Assisting with driver licences, training, inspections, and other compliance requirements
- Liaising with drivers, customers, and colleagues to resolve day-to-day operational queries
- Contacting customers to arrange and book in deliveries
- Helping respond quickly and effectively when operational issues arise
- Providing general administrative and organisational support to the Transport Manager
- Helping identify ways to improve the efficiency and smooth running of the transport operation
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who already has a good understanding of the transport environment and can hit the ground running.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in transport administration, logistics, fleet, or a similar operational role
- A good understanding of the challenges involved in coordinating drivers and vehicles
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- Experience maintaining accurate records
- The ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a busy environment
- Confident communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships with drivers, customers, and colleagues
- Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and relevant transport or fleet systems
- A proactive approach, with the ability to spot problems and help find practical solutions
- Fantastic telephone manner
- A reliable, professional, and team-focused attitude
