We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Engineering Supervisor or engineer willing to take the next step in their career to join our expanding team in Milton Keynes.
We have moved to a new state-of-the-art production facility this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our continued success and development.
Reporting to the Production Manager this is a hands-on supervisory position, ideal for a skilled mechanical engineer who enjoys leading a small team while remaining actively involved in production and project delivery. Initially, you will supervise a team of two engineers while contributing directly to the manufacture, installation, and maintenance of our bespoke X-ray cabinet systems.
The Role
As Mechanical Engineering Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day engineering activities both within production and on site, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
You will provide leadership, technical expertise, and practical support while helping to drive continuous improvement across the department.
There will also be opportunities to attend customer sites for installations, repairs, and commissioning activities, with occasional overnight stays required depending on project requirements.
This role will provide the successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to take charge of and put their own stamp on a new production process. You will be responsible for process flow improvements as you see fit utilising LEAN methodology to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a small but growing team of engineers, providing day-to-day leadership, technical guidance and discipline in accordance with company guidelines.
- Carry out the build and assembly of bespoke X-ray cabinet systems.
- Liaise with internal departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, every time to design specifications and to the highest quality standards.
- Lead by example, promoting a strong health and safety culture and high standards of workmanship.
- Manage site installations and service activities from planning through to successful completion.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting skills growth within the department.
- Coordinate contractors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with Permit to Work systems and RAMS requirements.
- Ensure adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and statutory obligations.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
- Monitor, order and source spare parts when and where required.
About You
We are looking for a practical and proactive engineering professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Essential Requirements
- Mechanical engineering technical qualification within a manufacturing or production environment (NVQ level 3 or higher).
- Previous supervisory, team leader, or senior engineer experience, ideally qualified to ILM level 3.
- Strong hands-on mechanical assembly and engineering skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices and risk management (IOSH).
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel for site work when required.
- Due to customer site security requirements, applicants must be UK nationals with no criminal record (Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010).
Desirable Requirements
- Experience managing installation projects.
- Knowledge of Permit to Work Systems, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Continuous Improvement or lean manufacturing experience and or qualification.
- Experience working with bespoke machinery, equipment, or specialist manufacturing systems.
