Job Purpose:
The General Manager will be responsible for leading the overall business operations of Schur-BPH, ensuring strategic growth, operational excellence, financial performance, and compliance with safety and quality standards. This role will act as the key point of contact for stakeholders and will drive the development of the SIPP division to meet and exceed customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Growth:
- Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with JV objectives and market opportunities in pipeline services
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and partnerships in the pipeline and utilities sectors
- Represent Schur-BPH SIPP Pipeline in industry forums, client meetings, and JV board discussions
- Overseas travel as and when required
Operational Excellence:
- Oversee daily operations including project delivery, safety management, logistics, and workforce planning
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high quality and safety standards
- Implement robust operational processes and continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage resource allocation across projects to optimise productivity and cost-efficiency
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Champion a strong health & safety culture in line with industry best practices and legal requirements
- Ensure compliance with all relevant pipeline, environmental, and construction regulations
- Oversee risk assessments, method statements, and safety audits
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing management and operational team
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Support talent development and succession planning
- Stakeholder & Client Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, JV partners, regulatory bodies, and suppliers
- Ensure transparent and timely communication with all stakeholders
- Act as the primary liaison between Schur, Buckhurst Plant Hire
Required Skills & Experience:
- Significant senior management experience in pipeline construction, utilities, or infrastructure sectors
- Demonstrable leadership skills with ability to manage multidisciplinary teams
- In-depth knowledge of pipeline installation, maintenance, and relevant industry standards
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- Strong health & safety knowledge (e.g., CDM Regulations, PAS 1192, ISO standards)
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites
Desirable Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline
- Professional certifications such as PMP, NEBOSH, or IOSH
- Experience in partner relations
- Knowledge of digital construction tools and software
