Based just outside Middletown on the Armagh/Monaghan border, Hughes Precast Products Ltd is a reputable, well-established, and expanding manufacturer of high-quality precast concrete. We design and manufacture a wide range of precast solutions for the Agricultural (slats, drinkers), Groundworks (kerbs, wall caps, fencing), and Building sectors (sills, lintels) across Northern Ireland, ROI, and the UK.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a reliable, practical, and hands-on Fitter / General Operative to join our manufacturing and yard team. This position is vital to our daily factory and yard operations—covering steel mold preparation, welding, fitting, rebar setup, concrete casting, and general equipment maintenance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Mold Fitting & Preparation: Assemble, fit, set up, clean, oil steel and molds and shuttering for agricultural, structural, and groundworks product lines.
· Reinforcement Setup: Accurately place reinforcement steel bars, wire mesh, and cast-in fixing inserts into molds, also welding cages etc.
· Concrete Production: Assist with concrete batching, pouring, mechanical vibration compaction, and surface finishing operations.
· Demolding & Product Handling: Safely strip finished precast units from molds and maneuver items around the yard using forklifts, or heavy plant equipment.
· Maintenance & Yard Operations: Perform routine basic maintenance on steel molds, hand tools, and workshop plant. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.
· Health & Safety: Adhere strictly to site safety guidelines, manual handling procedures, and company quality standard operating practices.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience: Previous background as a Mechanical Fitter, Assembler, Precast Worker, Builder's Yard Operative, or General Operative in construction, manufacturing, or heavy engineering is preferred.
· Technical Skills: Welding and fabrication skills, proficient with mechanical hand tools, power tools, angle grinders, and basic measuring/fitting equipment.
· Physical Capability: Physically fit and comfortable carrying out practical, hands-on tasks in a active factory and yard environment.
· Personal Attributes: Reliable, punctual, safety-minded, with strong attention to product detail and work ethic. fluent in English with good communication skills.
· Desirable Licenses: Forklift certificates, CSR / CSCS card (full site-specific training will also be provided).
