Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support children with diverse learning requirements within a primary school. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, families, and SEN team to promote an inclusive environment that fosters learning, development, and well-being. Experience working with individuals with autism and disabilities is highly desirable, along with a genuine passion for supporting children's growth. Responsibilities
- Provide tailored assistance to children with special educational needs, including those with autism and other disabilities
- Support the delivery of personalised learning programmes under the guidance of teaching staff
- Assist children during classroom activities, playtimes, and therapy sessions to ensure their safety and engagement
- Foster effective communication and social interaction skills through personalised support strategies
- Help organise and supervise activities suitable for toddlers and young children, ensuring a safe environment
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to monitor progress and adapt support plans accordingly
- Promote positive behaviour management techniques to encourage independence and confidence in children
- Maintain accurate records of children's development and any incidents or concerns
Experience
- Prior experience working with children in educational or care settings is preferred
- At least 1 year experience supporting individuals with autism or other special educational needs is highly advantageous
- Knowledge of special education practices and strategies for working with children with disabilities is desirable
- Familiarity with toddler care routines and early childhood development principles is beneficial
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, colleagues, and families are essential
- A caring attitude combined with patience, adaptability, and organisational skills are vital for success in this role
