Bank / Relief Nursery Practitioner - Flexible Hours
Working Mums Daycare, East Sheen
Qualified and unqualified practitioners welcome
Pay: £12.71 to £15.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
Hours: Flexible - you choose your availability
Job type: Casual / bank
About us
Working Mums Daycare in East Sheen is a warm, well-established nursery offering high quality care and education that gives every child the best possible start. We're part of Childcare & Learning Group.
We're building a bank of flexible, reliable Nursery Practitioners to cover busy periods, staff absence and holidays. It's an ideal opportunity if you want to fit work around other commitments, gain experience across different rooms and age groups, or top up your hours while keeping control of your own diary.
Qualified or unqualified — both welcome
You don't need a formal Early Years qualification to join our bank team. If you hold a full and relevant Level 2 or Level 3 (as recognised by the Department for Education), that's great, and it will be reflected in your hourly rate. If you don't, but you have hands-on experience of working with young children in a nursery, pre-school or similar setting, we'd still like to hear from you — and we can support you towards a qualification if that's something you'd like to pursue.
About the role
As a bank Nursery Practitioner you'll step into the room and provide warm, high quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). You'll quickly become part of the team for the day, helping to keep the environment safe, stimulating and settled for the children.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the delivery of engaging, child-led activities and experiences
- Helping to maintain ratios and supporting the room team through busy periods, absence and holidays
- Building warm, positive relationships with children and supporting them to play, explore and learn
- Supporting care routines including feeding, nappy changing and rest times, with patience and sensitivity
- Following the nursery's policies and procedures, and settling quickly into different rooms and teams
- Meeting all safeguarding, health and safety and welfare requirements at all times, in line with the EYFS
How bank work works with us
- You tell us your general availability, and we contact you when shifts come up
- There's no obligation to accept any particular shift, and no guaranteed minimum hours
- Shifts range from a single day's cover to longer blocks, depending on need
- You're paid by the hour for the time you work, with holiday pay accrued on top
- Bank work is a great route into a permanent role — we're always happy to talk to bank staff about joining us substantively, and we review this with our regular bank team
About you
We're looking for flexible, dependable practitioners who can settle quickly into a new room. You'll have:
- Experience of working with young children, whether qualified or unqualified
- A warm, caring and adaptable approach, and a genuine commitment to giving children a great day
- A good understanding of safeguarding and child development, and a willingness to learn the EYFS if it's new to you
- Reliability, and the flexibility to work across different rooms and age groups
- The ability to travel to East Sheen
A paediatric first aid certificate is desirable, though we can support you to gain this.
All appointments are subject to our safer recruitment process, including an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK.
What we offer
- Competitive hourly rate depending on qualifications and experience
- Genuine flexibility and control over your own availability
- Experience across a range of rooms and age groups
- Access to our training, and a clear route into permanent roles
