About CW Pipewise Ltd
CW Pipewise Ltd is a growing utilities, civils and external plumbing contractor based in Addlestone, Surrey.
We carry out a wide range of domestic, commercial and industrial projects throughout Surrey, Middlesex, London and the surrounding areas. Our work includes underground water services, leak detection, pipe replacements, trenchless moling, groundworks, drainage, ducting, electrofusion welding and general utilities installations.
Due to our increasing workload, we are looking for an experienced two-person team consisting of a competent Team Leader and a reliable Mate/Groundworker.
This is not a short-term position. We are looking for a team that wants regular, full-time work and the opportunity to build a long-term working relationship with our company.
The successful team must be experienced, professional, presentable and capable of completing works safely and to a high standard.
The Role
The Team Leader will be responsible for managing the works on site, communicating with customers and the office, organising the daily workload and ensuring that each project is completed correctly, safely and efficiently.
The Mate will work alongside the Team Leader, assisting with excavations, pipework installations, moling operations, reinstatement, loading and unloading equipment, maintaining the work area and completing all general groundwork duties.
Both members of the team must be willing to carry out physical work and take pride in leaving every site clean, safe and professionally completed.
Types of Work
The work will include:
- Full incoming water supply pipe replacements.
- Partial water supply pipe replacements and sectional repairs.
- Replacement of lead, steel, copper, black polyethylene and defective MDPE supplies.
- Installation of new 25mm, 32mm, 50mm, 63mm and larger MDPE water supplies.
- External stopcock and boundary box installations.
- Internal stopcock installations and alterations.
- Leak detection investigation works.
- Excavating and repairing underground water leaks.
- Trenchless moling and impact moling.
- Digging launch and reception pits for moling operations.
- Open-cut trenching and pipe installations.
- Electrofusion welding of MDPE and HDPE pipework.
- Butt fusion welding where suitably trained and experienced.
- Installation of valves, tees, reducers, elbows, couplers and associated fittings.
- Pressure testing, flushing and preparation for chlorination.
- Installation of underground ducting for water, power, data and fibre services.
- Installation of draw ropes within new ducting.
- Drainage repairs and new drainage installations.
- Installation and alteration of manholes and inspection chambers.
- Installation of soakaways, channel drains and underground drainage systems.
- Breaking out concrete, tarmac, paving and other surfaces.
- Hand excavation around existing underground utilities.
- Use of CAT and Genny equipment to help locate underground services.
- Reinstatement of block paving, slabs, concrete, tarmac, soil, gravel and landscaped areas.
- General civils, utilities and groundwork operations.
- Working on domestic, commercial, industrial and construction sites.
Team Leader Responsibilities
The Team Leader will be expected to:
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the site.
- Read and understand job sheets, quotations, drawings, RAMS and work instructions.
- Brief the Mate before works commence.
- Carry out and supervise safe excavations.
- Identify potential underground utilities and site hazards.
- Use CAT and Genny equipment correctly.
- Install water supplies and underground utilities to the correct depths and standards.
- Carry out MDPE pipework installations and connections.
- Complete electrofusion welds correctly and record the required information.
- Operate trenchless moling equipment safely and accurately.
- Plan launch pits, reception pits and mole routes.
- Ensure all pipework is protected, bedded and backfilled correctly.
- Ensure all excavations are safely barriered and protected.
- Communicate professionally with customers, site managers and other contractors.
- Keep the office updated throughout the day.
- Report any unexpected site conditions or additional works before proceeding.
- Take clear photographs before, during and after the works.
- Complete site paperwork and job reports.
- Ensure company tools, machinery and vehicles are used responsibly.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and customer service.
- Ensure the site is left clean, tidy and safe.
- Supervise the Mate and make sure the work is completed efficiently.
- Take responsibility for the completed installation and reinstatement.
Mate/Groundworker Responsibilities
The Mate will be expected to:
- Assist the Team Leader with all aspects of the works.
- Carry out hand excavations and general groundwork.
- Help expose existing water supplies and underground services.
- Assist with trenchless moling operations.
- Help set up launch and reception pits.
- Assist with pipe pulling, duct installation and pipe connections.
- Prepare pipework and fittings for installation.
- Assist with electrofusion welding operations where trained.
- Load and unload tools, barriers, materials and machinery.
- Set up barriers, signs and safe working areas.
- Assist with backfilling, compaction and reinstatement.
- Mix concrete and prepare bedding and backfill materials.
- Keep tools, equipment, vans and working areas clean and organised.
- Take instructions from the Team Leader and complete tasks safely.
- Communicate respectfully with customers and other contractors.
- Be willing to learn additional skills and progress within the company.
Experience Required
The Team Leader must have strong experience in at least several of the following areas:
- Water supply pipe replacements.
- MDPE water service installations.
- Underground leak repairs.
- Utilities and civils works.
- Groundworks and excavations.
- Trenchless moling.
- Electrofusion welding.
- Drainage installations.
- Ducting installations.
- External plumbing.
- Pipe fitting and underground connections.
- Surface reinstatement.
- Working safely around existing underground services.
Experience in electrofusion welding, trenchless moling, water regulations and underground utilities will be highly beneficial.
The Mate should have previous experience in groundworks, utilities, drainage, plumbing, construction or a similar practical role. A hardworking Mate who is willing to learn may also be considered.
Essential Requirements

- Be physically fit and comfortable carrying out manual work.
- Be willing to work outside in different weather conditions.
- Be able to work safely in domestic and commercial environments.
- Have good communication skills.
- Be respectful when working at customers’ properties.
- Be able to work independently without constant supervision.
- Take pride in the quality of completed work.
- Be willing to work overtime or occasional weekends when required.
- Follow company health and safety procedures.
- Keep accurate records and provide clear job photographs.
- Be comfortable using mobile phones for job sheets, photographs and communication.
Preferred Qualifications and Training
The following would be advantageous:
- Electrofusion welding certification.
- Butt fusion welding certification.
- Water Hygiene Card.
- WIAPS or water regulations knowledge.
- EUSR registration.
- CSCS or CPCS card.
- NRSWA Street Works qualification.
- CAT and Genny training.
- Excavator or plant operator tickets.
- Confined space training.
- First aid training.
- Manual handling training.
- Asbestos awareness.
- Abrasive wheels certification.
- Experience with trenchless moling equipment.
- Experience working on water company, commercial or industrial sites.
Applicants without every qualification may still be considered if they can demonstrate strong practical experience and the correct attitude.
