What does a Production Support Engineer ( 9 Month FTC ) do at WPP Production?
As a Production Support Engineer, you will provide first class support to the production users, maintaining and troubleshooting workstations and systems as required, with the aim of providing a stable and fully functioning production environment, either onsite or remotely. You will also be involved in the implementation of new production environments, from workstations to new studios within EMEA. You will play a key part in assessing new technologies to help optimise our end-to-end production workflow.
The role will be required to work on a flexible rota, being available from 9am to 6pm weekdays, including telephone support and regular onsite support at weekends and for other out of hours production work, including any On Call / Rota system that is required.
- Implementation of new production environments - support, maintain, administer and troubleshoot media production equipment and systems,
- Collaborate with the wider global production technology team to ensure working to global operational and security standards.
- Setup new workstations across Mac, Windows and Linux platforms.
- Research the latest software and developments across production technology.
- Assist in the deployment of WPP Production facilities and turnkey production systems
- Install and test new facilities and equipment
- Analyse and rectify technical faults on equipment and systems.
- Escalate and formally report faults to specialist engineers (including third party support when required)
- Communicate production issues with team colleagues and management and provide workable solutions
- Providing first and second line support to the suites
- Document and update documentation on standard procedures in real time
- To complete project work as set by the Production Technology Manager or Lead Engineer
- Maintain an awareness of global WPP Production facilities.
- Provide support and cover for other Production Support Engineers.
- Working with standard application suites and custom workflow tools at WPP Production (detailed below)
Reporting lines and key stakeholders:
This role reports to the Production Technology Manager.
You will work closely with all print, digital and moving image teams.
Requirements
- Experience in similar role in a media production environment
- An excellent working knowledge of media production processes and services
- General "can-do" service attitude
- Have a proactive, flexible approach and actively suggest new ideas.
- Capability of working under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking abilities
- Excellent communication, problem solving and organisational skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical people face to face or via email.
- Be able to work independently as well as part a team
- Physically capable to perform the role
- Form good working relationships with end users
- A flexible attitude to working out of hours when required
- Effective problem solving, able to recognise root causes and identify ways to overcome them
- Able to adapt to new working methods and practice technology advances
- Keep abreast of changes in technology by investigating new systems, techniques and equipment, particularly Adobe technologies .
- Ability to learn quickly and implement new technology.
- Keep up to date with the industry by building and maintaining a network of contacts
- Working knowledge of macOS, Windows 10 and Linux operating systems
- Good technical understanding of production workflows for print, digital, moving image, audio as well as colour pipeline, acquisition formats and technical standards.
- Working experience of production software and hardware including Autodesk Flame / Flame Assist, Adobe Creative Cloud, Da Vinci Resolve, Baselight and Avid Protools
- Experience of Render farms (software and hardware) and render managers (Deadline etc)
- Experience of software deployment tools including Jamf Pro and Microsoft Intune
- Extensive knowledge of production centric, high-performance core infrastructure, including scalable SAN and NAS systems, networking, servers, workstations and associated security requirements. (Quantum would be an advantage)
- Good command line and scripting knowledge
- Prior people management experience would be an advantage
