Mechanical Fitter

Monday to Thursday 8am–5pm, Friday 8am–2.30pm | 38 hours per week
If you're the kind of Mechanical Fitter who enjoys actually building things, figuring out how they go together and working on machinery that isn't simply the same repetitive assembly every day, this could be a really good fit.
We are recruiting for a well-established engineering business designing and manufacturing specialist machinery for customers across a range of industries worldwide.
This is a hands-on role within a skilled production team, assembling both complete machinery and specialist sub-assemblies. Some builds are based on established designs where not every detail is prescribed for you, so this would particularly suit someone who is practically minded, enjoys problem solving and is comfortable using their own judgement alongside engineering drawings.
There is plenty of product-specific knowledge to learn, and you'll work alongside experienced fitters who know the machinery inside out.
What you will be doing:
- Mechanical and pneumatic assembly of specialist machinery and sub-assemblies
- Reading and working accurately from assembly and pneumatic drawings
- Building bespoke and special-purpose machinery
- Running field wiring ahead of electrical fitting
- Inspecting returned machinery and assessing its condition
- Identifying mechanical faults and reporting findings
- Testing equipment following repair or maintenance work
- Working to production schedules and agreed build times
- Maintaining high standards of quality and safe working
What we need from you:
Previous experience working as a Mechanical Fitter is essential, ideally within a machinery, equipment or special-purpose machine environment.
You will also need:
- Experience assembling bespoke or special-purpose machinery
- Confidence working from engineering and assembly drawings
- Good practical problem-solving skills
- A hands-on approach and willingness to use your own judgement
- Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
- The ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit production team
- A strong awareness of health and safety
Experience with pneumatics would be particularly useful, while electrical fitting or machine wiring experience would also be beneficial.
