At Steer Commercial, we're not just repairing vehicleswe're setting the benchmark for commercial vehicle repair through integrity, excellence, and innovation. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Paint Prep Technician to join our specialist team at Ashford in Heathrow.
As a Paint Prep Technician, you'll play a vital role in preparing commercial vehicles for paint, ensuring surfaces are repaired, prepared and finished to the highest possible standard before they enter the paint process. You'll work on a range of light and heavy commercial vehicles, working closely with our Paint and Bodyshop teams to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare repaired panels and vehicle surfaces ready for paint application.
- Carry out sanding, filling, masking and priming to ensure surfaces are correctly prepared.
- Prepare panels to achieve a smooth, even surface and high-quality finish.
- Identify and rectify imperfections before vehicles move into the paint process.
- Mask vehicles accurately to protect areas that are not being painted.
- Follow repair methods and manufacturer specifications to ensure work meets required standards.
- Inspect your own work and ensure vehicles are prepared correctly before passing to the Painter.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Work closely with Panel Technicians, MET Technicians and Painters to ensure vehicles move efficiently through the repair process.
- Follow all company health, safety and environmental procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
What You'll Need
- Previous experience in an automotive paint preparation or accident repair environment.
- Strong paint preparation and surface finishing skills.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Understanding of vehicle repair and refinishing processes.
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working on commercial vehicles would be advantageous but is not essential.
- ATA accreditation or relevant industry qualifications are desirable but not essential.
