Production Operative
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Spring Coiling Machine Operator/Setter to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining spring coiling equipment to produce high-quality compression, tension, and torsion springs in accordance with engineering drawings and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate large wire diameter spring coiling machines to manufacture springs to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and production work orders.
- Select appropriate tooling, guides, mandrels, and machine settings for each production run.
- Perform machine adjustments to ensure product quality and production efficiency.
- Conduct first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and spring testing equipment.
- Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot production issues as they arise.
- Maintain accurate production records, quality documentation, and inspection reports.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment faults or repair requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards, health and safety procedures, and housekeeping requirements.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills and Experience
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Apprenticeship, vocational training, or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or manufacturing.
- Experience with CNC spring coiling equipment.
- Forklift or overhead crane certification (where applicable).
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing and production environment.
- Regular handling of heavy wire materials and tooling.
- Standing for extended periods and performing manual handling tasks.
- Shift work and overtime may be required based on production demands.

Pay: £12.21-£16.00 per hour
