Smiths Metal Centres is a stockholder and supplier of metals, serving various engineering sectors from Aerospace and Motorsport applications, through to Oil and gas as well as General Engineering companies. The metals stocked are often checked for their mechanical and chemical properties in our bespoke inhouse UKAS accredited test facility. Due to the markets we supply into, they are driven by high standards of quality. As a company, our levels of quality are something we pride ourselves on and are constantly looking to improve.
A Laboratory Technician (recent Graduate or Collage leaver) is being sought who will work alongside the Laboratory Supervisor to ensure all tests required by our customers are carried out correctly and in a timely manner. You will actively review customer test requirements, liaise with customers to develop test plans accordingly, and keep customers informed of any changes to their job.
Some of the key accountabilities within the role are:
- To help develop test procedures.
- Improve the accuracy and efficiency of test processes.
- Liaise directly with sales personnel to assist with technical matters, and, where necessary, support the sales staff with customer site visits.
The successful candidate will:
- Be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal.
- Be qualified to Graduate Level in an Engineering discipline, Metallurgy, or, Materials Science.
- Be numerate.
- Be able to read and follow procedures diligently.
- Have excellent time management skills.
- Have the ability to work under pressure.
- Having a knowledge of engineering materials would be desirable.

Pay: £28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
