The Position:
James Walker and Co Ltd are looking to recruit one Tool Room Administrator on a permanent contract to provide administration and operational support to the Tool Room department at the manufacturing site in Cockermouth, Cumbria. This is a day role working Monday to Friday on 35 hours per week.
Key responsibilities:
Administration & Office Support
· Raise purchase requisitions for tooling, consumables, subcontract services and equipment.
· Track requisition status and follow up on outstanding orders.
· Maintain Tool Room records, databases and filing systems.
· Scan and electronically archive completed job packs and maintenance records.
Job & Work Order Administration
· Open, update and close work orders within the company systems.
· Maintain accurate records of tooling repairs, modifications and maintenance activities.
· Monitor job progress and provide updates to Site Tooling Manager.
· Assist in producing workload summaries and departmental KPI reports.
Planning Support (Development Responsibility)
· Assist with scheduling Tool Room activities and machine workloads.
· Support production planning by monitoring job priorities and resource availability.
· Help coordinate material requirements and tooling readiness.
· Produce planning reports and capacity information for management review.
· Liaise with production and planning teams regarding job status and priorities.
Basic Machine Programming Support (Development Responsibility)
· Generate basic machine programs using approved macro-based programming systems.
· Ensure generated programs comply with departmental standards and procedures.
The successful candidate must have:
Essential
· Previous experience in an administrative, office support, or coordinator role.
· Experience managing and maintaining electronic records and filing systems.
· Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
· Experience processing documentation with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
· Experience working to deadlines and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred / Working towards
· Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
· Planning or scheduling experience.
· Experience working with engineering drawings.
· Ability to work effectively with design and production personnel.
· Basic understanding of engineering documentation and processes
Experience/Qualifications:
Essential
· GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Preferred / Working towards:
· Engineering or manufacturing administration experience.
· Knowledge of purchasing and requisition processes.
