As a Household Claims Handler, you will manage household property claims from first notification through to settlement, ensuring claims are handled efficiently, fairly, and in line with regulatory requirements. This is a great opportunity to build on existing claims experience within a forward-thinking company that supports career development and rewards achievement.
We are ideally looking for someone with at least 12 months’ experience in a household or property claims role. However, we will also consider a trainee with strong customer service and organisational skills who is keen to develop a career in claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Caseload Management: Manage a varied portfolio of domestic property claims from first notification to final settlement.
- First Notification & Assessment: Handle initial calls and correspondence, confirming whether the policyholder has valid grounds to claim.
- Fraud & Underwriting Awareness: Identify and refer any suspicious underwriting or potentially fraudulent claims.
- Information Gathering: Collect accurate details and documents needed to progress each claim.
- Settlement Negotiation: Validate and negotiate settlements within your authorised limits.
- Organisation & Prioritisation: Maintain effective diary management and prioritise your caseload.
- Customer Communication: Provide clear updates, progress information, and coordination throughout the claim.
- Policy & Liability Assessment: Assess policy cover, benefits, and liability in line with guidelines.
- Supplier Management: Appoint and manage suppliers supporting the policyholder.
- Customer Service Excellence: Deliver consistently high standards of service.
- Target Achievement: Meet individual and team performance targets.
Key Attributes and Skills:
- Excellent Customer Service and Computer Skills: Confident in providing professional, helpful support while using a variety of computer systems efficiently.
- Active Listening and Relationship Building: Skilled at listening attentively and building positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Attention to Detail: Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and care in all aspects of work, from communication to claims handling.
- Household Claims Experience: The ideal applicant will have a minimum of 12 months of experience within a household or property claims environment, but we will consider a trainee who has strong customer service and organisational skills.
- Commitment to Professional Development: Holds or is willing to work towards the CII Certificate, with full support from the company.
- Minimum Qualifications: GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths, demonstrating sound literacy and numeracy skills.
