We're looking for a proactive and detail-focused Technical Project Quality Engineer to join our Projects Team on a 12-months fixed-term contract and play a key role in ensuring project work across our fleet is delivered to the highest standards.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a marine, engineering, quality assurance, or vessel operations background who enjoys being hands-on, working collaboratively with stakeholders, and contributing to projects that make a real difference.
The Role
As Technical Project Quality Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of a diverse range of vessel and infrastructure projects by providing quality assurance, inspection, and survey expertise.
Working closely with project managers, contractors, vessel crews, and technical specialists, you'll help ensure that project works are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with agreed specifications and industry standards.
From carrying out vessel and site inspections to managing punch lists and supporting project acceptance testing, you'll be instrumental in driving quality throughout the project lifecycle.
What You'll Be Doing -
Project Quality & Inspection

Support the delivery of vessel and fleet projects from inception through to completion
- Carry out vessel and site surveys, inspections, and quality assurance activities
- Inspect and approve contractor works, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality requirements
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT), and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
- Develop, maintain, and manage project inspection, quality, approval, and punch-list documentation
- Gather, analyse, and report project inspection and quality data
- Monitor progress and provide accurate project status updates to the wider team
- Support project completion activities and contractor sign-off processes
Continuous Improvement

Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the Projects Team
- Support lessons learned reviews and share best practices across stakeholders
- Ensure project related procedures and documentation remain accurate, effective, and up to date
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
Stakeholder Engagement

Build strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and external stakeholders
- Act as a professional ambassador for CalMac Ferries, demonstrating our values in every interaction
- Work collaboratively across departments to ensure successful project outcomes
- Remain calm, flexible, and solution-focused in a fast-paced operational environment
What We're Looking For -
Essential
-
ONC/HNC qualification in an engineering, marine, or related discipline (or significant equivalent experience)
- Experience in a quality assurance, quality engineering, inspection, testing, or similar technical role
- Experience in ship repair, shipbuilding or ship operations.
- Knowledge of marine industry standards, such as Lloyd's Register Rules or equivalent classification requirements
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and outfitting systems found on vessels or offshore facilities
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation
- Strong experience using Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to gather, analyse, and present inspection and quality-related information
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels
Desirable

Experience within commercial shipping, vessel operations, or maritime engineering
- Seagoing Deck or Marine Engineering background
- Experience working with quality management systems, procedures, and standards
- Understanding of project delivery within a marine or engineering environment
