The Role
We are looking for an experienced Workshop Foreman to join our team at our Halstead Depot.
Reporting directly to the Depot Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop and the management of a team of Plant Fitters. You will play a key role in ensuring our fleet of plant and equipment is maintained, repaired and prepared to a high standard, whilst minimising downtime and keeping equipment available for our customers.
This is a hands-on leadership role, suited to an experienced Plant Fitter or Workshop Supervisor looking to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate a team of Plant Fitters.
- Plan and allocate daily workshop workloads.
- Oversee servicing, maintenance, inspections and repairs of plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and assist with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained to a safe and hire-ready standard.
- Monitor workshop productivity, quality and turnaround times.
- Liaise with the Depot Manager and wider depot team regarding equipment priorities and availability.
- Ensure workshop paperwork and maintenance records are completed accurately.
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety and workshop housekeeping.
- Support the training and development of workshop staff.
- Assist with urgent repairs and breakdowns when required.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
- Previous experience as a Plant Fitter, Senior Plant Fitter, Workshop Supervisor or Foreman.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and experience working on plant and machinery.
- Experience leading or supervising a team.
- Good knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
- The ability to organise and prioritise work in a busy workshop.
- A proactive, practical approach to problem solving.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with the wider depot team.
- A strong commitment to Health & Safety and quality workmanship.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable.
