Hockley Golf Club is a private members’ club situated on the edge of the South Downs National Park near Winchester. It is widely recognised as a prime example of a high-quality downland course, offering an excellent experience for members and guests alike.
We are seeking to appoint a Chef who is passionate, driven, and highly organised, with a strong focus on kitchen operations, team leadership, and food quality. This is a key role within the Club, responsible for the day-to-day management of the kitchen and its team, while working closely with and reporting directly to the Food & Beverage Manager.

The kitchen delivers high-quality food for members, visitors, and functions of up to 100 guests. The role will involve weekend work and occasional evening events.
Hours: 40 hours per week, over 5 days (including weekends and some evenings)
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Kitchen Operations & Leadership
- Oversee the efficient day-to-day running of the kitchen operation
- Lead, manage, and develop the kitchen team, ensuring high standards of performance and professionalism
- Plan, organise, and deliver consistent, high-quality food for both daily service and events
- Maintain excellent communication and collaboration with the Food & Beverage Manager
- Monitor stock control, ordering, and cost management to support business performance
Team Management
- Train, mentor, and support kitchen staff to uphold culinary standards
- Foster a positive, motivated, and professional working environment
- Ensure clear communication within the kitchen and with front-of-house teams
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and COSHH regulations
- Maintain all kitchen documentation, risk assessments, and records
- Uphold best practices in cleanliness, food safety, and operational standards
General Responsibilities
- Support the Food & Beverage Manager in delivering the overall food and hospitality offering
- Provide operational cover for aspects of the Food & Beverage function as required
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Food & Beverage Manager
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- NVQ Level 1–3 in Catering (or equivalent)
- Food Hygiene Level 2
- Proven experience in a similar catering or kitchen leadership role
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent understanding of kitchen operations and food safety standards
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Desirable
- Experience within a golf club or members’ club environment
- Experience in function and event catering
- Advanced catering qualifications
- Good level of IT/computer literacy
