Job Summary
The Canalside Heritage Centre is a vibrant heritage destination in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. Set within historic canal-side buildings once occupied by local canal workers, we are well known for our welcoming tearoom and community focused atmosphere.
This varied role involves both kitchen and front of house duties, helping to deliver an excellent experience for all visitors.
Hours:
37.5 hours per week on average working across a two-week rota pattern.
The role involves working every other weekend and a variety of hours between 7.30am and 4.30pm.
Duties
As Tearoom and Kitchen Assistant, you will work flexibly to maintain the effective operation of the tearoom. One day you may be serving customers behind the tearoom counter and preparing high-quality coffee and drinks. On another you may be working in the kitchen preparing freshly made lunches and light meals. You will be part of a supportive and friendly team in a unique heritage environment. Full induction and food safety training will be provided.

Key responsibilities
- Preparing and serving food and drinks to a high standard
- Delivering excellent customer service in a warm and welcoming manner
- Operating the till and handling cash/card payments accurately
- Assisting with food preparation and kitchen duties
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety
- Following health and safety procedures at all times
- Supporting colleagues during busy periods and working flexibly when needed
Knowledge, skills and experience required for the role
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Health & Safety compliance requirements.
Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene and Safety for Catering certificate, or a willingness to undertake training to achieve this qualification.
SKILLS:
Excellent people skills to enable effective working relationships.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good levels of numeracy.
Able to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment.
EXPERIENCE:
Practical experience of food & beverage best practice including the production and service of good quality food and drink.
Demonstrable experience of good team-working.
Cash handling and till operation experience.
